China Knowledge quoted the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said China had imported 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Central Asia as of April 27th. The daily imports were more than 7.5 million cubic meters.
The country plans to import 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas through the 1,833 kilometer China Central Asia natural gas pipeline, which starts from the border between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, runs through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and finally ends at Horgos, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. China started receiving natural gas from the pipeline on December 15th 2009.
Mr. Liu Xiaoli a senior researcher at the energy research institute under the National Development and Reform Commission said late last month that China demand for natural gas will reached 200 billion cubic meters in 2015 an amount double the 2008 level.
