Baker Hughes awarded contract for China gas field
Baker Hughes was recently awarded a contract with PetroChina for horizontal well completion in Chagquing Field tight gas sands -- China's second largest onshore oil and gas field.
The one-year contract is for 77 multistage openhole fracture completion systems for horizontal wells, the news release said. PetroChina is expanding its horizontal well to increase gas production from the field.
Characterized by low permeability, low pressure and low yields, reserve recovery from Changquing is technically complex -- requiring innovations like multistage fracture completions to overcome the geologic challenges. Baker Hughes will provide Frac-Point systems for three-quarters of the total 102-well horizontal drilling program. PetroChina chose BakerHughes because of its success in the Sulige gas field last year using its Frac-Point technology.
