Woodside, BHP rewarded for ‘environmental excellence’
2005-9-29
Mining companies in Western Australia's Pilbara, Woodside and BHP Billiton, have both won awards at this year's Golden Gecko Awards for environmental excellence.
Woodside's Trunkline System Expansion Project implemented a number of innovative procedures to reduce the impact of the project on the Burrup Peninsula.
The final route of the pipeline was chosen to minimise the impact on coral and to avoid Aboriginal rock art and terrestrial flora and fauna.
BHP and URS Australia also received a certificate of merit for work in selecting a site for the possible development of a land-based liquefied natural gas plant at Onslow.
