World majors to invest $53 billion into oil and gas projects on the Sakhalin Island, Russia.
The investors are from America, Britain, Holland and Japan. The duration of the project is 10 years.
Currently there are two ongoing projects: Sakhalin 1 and Sakhalin 2. The former is led by US oil company ExxonMobil.
But at US$10 billion, Sakhalin Energy’s Sakhalin 2 is the largest single foreign direct investment project in Russian history.
Under the project the first Russia’s liquefied natural gas plant will be built in order to bring reliable and clean energy to East Asian economies.
The first delivery of Sakhalin gas will be ready by 2007.
