Sudan and China Agree to Increase Oil Production, Develop Refinery

During a joint meeting between the minister of petroleum, Dr. Awad Al-Jaz, and deputy head of PetroEnergy, Wang Dong John, Sudan and China agreed to work towards increasing oil production and developing Khartoum Oil Refinery.

Several issues of mutual concern were discussed in the meeting including the resumption of South Sudanese oil exportation through Sudanese territories and oil infrastructure. This resumption is the result of the cooperation agreement signed between Sudan and South Sudan in Addis Ababa in September.

The minister of oil said that carrying out the agreement as one package will help facilitate the passage of oil through Sudan. He pointed out the importance of maintaining security and sustaining peace. He affirmed that Sudan seeks permanent peace and safe neighbourly relations with South Sudan.

The minister went on to say: "Sudan and China share advanced relations in the oil sector, relations that will be even more enhanced regarding cooperation in oil operations."

The deputy head of PetroEnergy, who is accompanied by a high level delegation, said relations between Sudan and China are very strong, especially with the ministry of oil. These relations, he continued, will be used to develop oil production and increase it. He expressed his good hopes for the cooperation agreement with South Sudan.
